Starting Reception at Bewley Primary School
Starting Reception is an exciting milestone for both children and parents. At Bewley Primary, we aim to make this transition smooth, welcoming, and positive so that every child feels happy, safe, and ready to learn.
Reception Times: 8:45 am – 3:00 pm
Supporting Your Child’s Transition
We understand that some children may be joining Reception without attending our Nursery. To help them settle confidently, we provide:
- Home Visits: Every new child is offered a home visit, where the Reception teacher and teaching assistant meet your child in a familiar environment. This helps build a positive relationship and gives us valuable insight into your child’s interests and needs.
- Stay and Play Sessions: Children have the opportunity to visit Reception with their parent, explore the classroom, and begin to feel comfortable in their new setting.
- Tailored Transition Plans: For children who may need extra support settling in, we create personalised transition arrangements, ensuring every child feels secure and confident.
For children who are already part of our Nursery, we provide additional transition opportunities to make moving into Reception smooth and enjoyable:
- Story Time with Reception Teachers: Children can spend time in small groups enjoying stories led by the Reception team, helping them become familiar with new staff and routines.
- Stay and Play Visits: Nursery children can visit Reception with their parents, exploring the classroom and outdoor areas before their official start.
- Built-in Transition Sessions: During the last weeks of Nursery, children are given the chance to play in Reception in small groups, allowing them to become familiar with the environment, resources, and routines in a supportive, gradual way.
